Over 3,100 Posts Vacant in J&K Health Department

Srinagar, 8 Feb: A Right to Information (RTI) request has revealed that 3,140 positions in the Jammu and Kashmir Health Department are still vacant. Despite the increasing need for healthcare services, these posts have not been filled, leading to a shortage of medical staff in hospitals across the region.

According to the RTI reply, 650 positions for specialist doctors and 2,490 positions for general medical officers remain unfilled. Additionally, 72 administrative posts are also vacant, affecting the smooth functioning of the department.

The shortage of doctors and healthcare workers has put extra pressure on the existing staff. Many district hospitals are struggling to provide proper medical care, especially in rural areas where the lack of doctors is a serious concern.

Government records from 2020-21 show that this issue has persisted for years. The Health Department has acknowledged the problem and stated that efforts are being made to fill these positions. However, the slow recruitment process has raised concerns about the availability of quality healthcare in J&K.

The RTI report highlights the urgent need for the government to speed up hiring and strengthen the healthcare system to ensure better medical services for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
